Rose Boniface's Portfolio
These videos below are a few examples of videos I have produced. These range from working in small groups, larger groups or on my own, as well as ideas from different sources. I think they represent nicely the process of learning that I have been going through, and show the hard work that I put in to produce a finished piece.
Banding Together - Short documentary
This was a video made in February 2020 through the BFI. I think the video is a good blend between the music and the culture, and expresses views of different band members and their leaders well when thinking about the impact on them and the community. If I were to go back to producing this, I would perhaps edit a more cohesive plot between different themes, such as focusing on one topic and then moving on instead of dispersing different sections of each topic throughout, or at least show difference in conversations through more B-roll and a short music break.
Banding Together - Behind the Scenes
This behind the scenes was made in correlation with the above documentary. I think the video is very expressive of the journey we went on and is very nostalgic to look back upon. Some of the music editing was hard to do as we used audio that had talking covering some parts of it, however the music being in time to our playing adds more engagement to the film. If I could go back I would edit the music to be more seamless between cuts, and perhaps film more clips of the editing process as the mainly clips are from filming and travelling.
Heading Home - Short film
Heading Home was a short film that I made in response to a prompt in January 2019. It was used as an application for a school I was applying to, and also to the BFI documentary course. Looking back on it now, the use of intertextuality to Western films does the story well, and the contrast between dramatic shots and the reveal of two 'children' playing adds to the humor. The piece does need additions though, and looking back now I feel that adding voiceovers instead of subtitles would have worked better. There are some jarring cuts in the music, and the surroundings could be worked on, however the short film is comedic and I think the different take on 'Heading home' was original.
Breathe - Coursework practice
I think the concept of this video was great, however I was unused to producing film to the level that was expected of us. The clips showed inconsistencies, and the choices of clips which I had weren't ideal at times when it's clear the actors are talking to me or to each other. Some plot is lost in the jumbling of clips, and if I were to redo it, I would make sure my surroundings are more controlled than Christmas cards up and darkness outside. In general though, I think for my first time using professional lighting and conducting a bigger scale of production than I was used to, the video is still good.
EMD day video - Class Project
This video was created by my year 13 media class in October 2020 for our school's English - Media - Drama day. It was a struggle to get done in the pandemic as most teachers and students had to stick to individual bubbles, and so we had to come up with creative means by which to film, such as substituting one of our own class in as the main character. This also meant that filming locations were limited, however in terms of EMD videos, the humour and lighthearted comedy makes the overall outcome much higher. In terms of my contribution, I filmed, communicated with teachers, and did some editing, which I feel was good. My filming skills could improve, as I felt that my hand was unsteady and that I could sometimes cover the microphone, and editing pictures was difficult due to unfamiliar technology, however the overall outcome of the film was good, and a lot of effort from everyone was put in to getting it done on time.
